So you want to know the Best Date Spots In Amsterdam? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Amsterdam is one of the most charming cities in the world, and I am lucky enough to live here. Having moved to Amsterdam for love in 2016, I have since been on many dates across the city ranging from a classic dinner date to some a little more interesting… Here’s my guide to the best date spots in Amsterdam for you to take your special someone on your next date!

Rent your own boat and have a picnic along the canals

Amsterdam’s canals never get old. With boat hire companies scattered all over the city, this is a great date idea! Hire your boat for 2-3 hours, bring some snacks and drinks, and get motoring! Seeing Amsterdam from the water will definitely kick up the romance a notch and you’ll definitely get brownie points for this cool idea!

Renting starts at around €90 for 3 hours, increasing in price if you would like more hours added to your boating session.

I’ve rented from Mokum Boot and I can recommend this company – they are very professional and give tips and a map of an ideal route to take!

Drink beer flights at the Brewery under the windmill

I’m a bit of a broken-record when it comes to how much I love Brouwerij ‘t IJ. This brewery is located underneath the largest windmill in The Netherlands, which also happens to be located within the city limits of Amsterdam!

Brouwerij ‘t IJ always has a seasonal beer as well as many known and loved beers on tap. Though, if it’s a date activity you are after, and a brewery isn’t speaking to you, Brouwerij ‘t IJ also serves their 6 signature beers in a ‘paddle’. You receive small versions of each beer to taste them and find your favourite. I personally think sharing a beer plank to be the height of romance. Okay, maybe not the height, but it is cute when a boy wants to share their beer 🙂 And that’s why Brouwerij ‘t IJ is one of the best date spots in Amsterdam!

Hang in one of Amsterdam’s parks

Amsterdam isn’t THAT big of a city, yet there are countless parks found all over, making the parks one of the best places to catch some quiet time and also best date spots in Amsterdam! My favourite is Flevopark in Amsterdam’s Oost (East) as it is too far from the centre for tourists to venture.

Within Flevopark there is a Gin Distillery which also distils their own Dutch Jenever, and overlooks a lake.

To get to Flevopark from Amsterdam’s centre, just take the number 14 tram, which ends at the park’s Northern entrance.

Pet baby goats in Amsterdamse Bos/Amsterdam Forest

Amsterdamse Bos has so much to offer that it even has a Goat Farm! Going for a stroll through the park to end up patting curious and happy goats is one of the most unusual but best things to do in the city – and even better, with your loved one!

Get to Amsterdamse Bos via Amsterdam’s public transport system. Check out 9292-ov.nl for directions!

Check out a gig at the Amsterdamse Bos Ampitheater

Whilst you’re at Amsterdamse Bos, check out this great find! Hosting a range of cool events and music acts, this place is relatively small and intimate. Mix the funky venue with a beer and your favourite person and you’ve got yourself an awesome date night!

Jump on wall to wall trampolines

More of a fitness freak than a couch potato? Take your date to Vrog! Located in Amsterdam’s East, this place has floor to ceiling trampolines for you to bounce on! It’s one hell of a workout and SO MUCH FUN.

And 1 hour of bouncing costs just €8!

Catch a gig at Paradiso or The Melkweg

best date spots in amsterdam

Sharing a love for a band or artist is a great way to bond with your date – and what better way than seeing them live at one of Amsterdam’s premier music venues!

Tickets generally sell out to gigs in these small venues very quickly, so follow both venues on Facebook, where they post all of the upcoming music events. Last minute planner? Then try your luck on Ticket Swap! When the event is already sold out, Ticket Swap is your go to site to buy tickets from people who cannot attend anymore. I’ve been a lucky ticket buyer on TicketSwap for The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Alt-J, among others!

Cycle outside of the city

Dutchies can cycle really really well. Many a time I see them riding no-hands as they carry shopping, text on their phones and generally just nail riding a bike while looking unbelievably cool.

Going for a bike ride from Amsterdam to a neighbouring village is a great way to spend a day and date! Casually ride along enjoying the scenery whilst chatting it up, then grabbing a meal or coffee and your destination can be a really nice and relaxed activity.

Some of my favourites have been the cute villages of Muiden and Durgerdam – both within 30 minutes bike ride!

Forget Venice, Hop a Gondola

Amsterdam has more than 100kms of canals, so naturally, we Amsterdammers enjoy being on the water. Whilst Venice is known for the romantic gondola, it seems Amsterdam has gone and stolen the idea and you too can take a romantic ride on a gondola with or without singing gondolier. So who needs Venice when you’ve got the beautiful romantic canals of Amsterdam?!

Go fancy with Rooftop Drinks/Cocktails

I don’t know about you, but I love a good cocktail. Amsterdam has many great cocktail bars, but the cocktails are even better with great views! If you want to take your date to one of the best date spots in Amsterdam, then make sure you take them to Mr Porter, SkyLounge, or Canvas for some of the best views over this beautiful city!

Get in the competitive spirit at an Ajax Game

Yes – Amsterdam Arena is one of the best date spots in Amsterdam! Nothing is more Amsterdam than getting yourself to an Ajax game! I am a sports lover, and so on my first date with my Dutch hunk, he took me to an Ajax game. From that moment I knew he was a keeper! Sports dates might not be for everyone, but cheering on your team (or your date’s team) in such an epic stadium is reason enough for me!

Check out the Amsterdam Ajax game schedule here!

Catch a movie at Pathe Tuskinski

Theater Tuschinski is one of those places you just have to go with your date! The building itself oozes charm, with it’s Art Deco Art Nouveau architecture. The Tuschinski is owned by Pathe, the leading cinema company in The Netherlands so they play all leading movies. And because they are a large chain, they have the option to get a Loveseat for you and your date when attending a movie at this theatre! No need to go for the old yawn and stretch anymore.

Laugh your asses off at a comedy show

best date spots in amsterdam

Catch a comedy show on a date and you’ll be sure to leave happy and loved up! There’s a few great locations in Amsterdam to see comedy shows, including Boom Chicago and the Comedy Cafe! Everyone loves someone with a good sense of humour, so put their humour to the test by taking your date out for a comedy show in Amsterdam!

Test your knowledge at Pub Quiz

best date spots in amsterdam

Pub Quiz is half knowledge, have jokes, but ALL fun! This activity is a light weight way of bonding over not knowing stuff and laughing about how lacking in knowledge you are! Competition always brings out a different side of people, so take your date to pub quiz to see what kind of winner or loser they are!

Check out a list of which bars/restaurants host quiz nights.

Go Ice-Skating Together

Ice Skating is a typical winter activity in Holland. And in Amsterdam you’ll find numerous ice rink’s to try out your skills. We were lucky enough in 2017 to be able to ice skate on the frozen over lake in Amsterdamse Bos, something that hasn’t happened in years!

Having never tried ice-skating, I had my Dutch hunk teach me the ropes and help me learn to skate – which was quite romantic! We’ve ice-skated on frozen lakes and Amsterdam’s frozen Canals which really is one of the all-time moments for us! Adventures are always the best dates, and ice skating ON the Amsterdam Canals, surrounded by all of that beautiful architecture, makes it one of the best date spots in Amsterdam. Will the canals freeze over this winter so you can take your date on the canals? Only time will tell!

Picnic under the Japanese Cherry Blossoms in Amsterdamse Bos/Amsterdam Forest

The Cherry Blossoms only bloom for a few weeks in the spring. So this one is only for the lucky ones who are in Amsterdam when they bloom in April. As soon as you hear they’ve arrived, head down to enjoy the pretty pink flowers and while away the afternoon picnicking. The blossoms really do make for an original date spot and that’s why it has to be in my list of best date spots in Amsterdam! I really love this place!!
