Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb

Sydney in Australia is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, sitting on the bay with numerous must-see landmarks such as the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

For my birthday, and as I was back in Australia to visit my parents and introduce The Hunk to Australia, my parents gifted me (us) on my birthday with a killer present – two tickets to CLIMB THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE!!

How it works:

After you arrive at the Bridge Climb HQ, first you check in and wait for your climb guide to collect you for training! Then once everyone is set, some rules and regulations and then the climb begins! It takes about 3 hours for training, suiting up and the climb up and back down but it feels like it flies by and when it is over the feeling is “do I have to get off the bridge already?”

Training:

So, after meeting your guide, it is time to suit up. All jewellery must come off, and everything you wish to have with you (like sunglasses) must be physically attached to you in case it blows off!

After suiting up in a very unattractive grey pants and shirt outfit, it is time to find your harness etc.

Pairs fit each other and the guide makes sure each person is set up correctly and then fits you with your head set. This is so the guide can talk as you walk/climb and everyone can hear on the headset!

The Climb:

First of all, you are attached to the bridge the whole time, which makes sure you feel somewhat safe! And being under the bridge is surreal. It’s also the moment when you are giddy like a school child because you are literally climbing the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Along the climb, your guide explains history of the bridge, how it was built and other interesting facts which make the climb experience all the more worthwhile.

However, my favourite part of the climb was the constant amazing view of Sydney, getting more and more amazing with every step you took towards the top!

I also enjoyed posing for photos along the way!

At the top, it’s group photos time, more photos of your own party, and of course, the chance to record a video! Hunk and I recorded a video thanking my parents for this incredible gift of “climbing the Sydney Opera House”… Yep – completely bone-headed my only chance to record a video atop the Harbour Bridge!

The walk down was quicker than the walk up and we were lucky with our timeslot for the day that the sun was going down as we walked, and so we got to see the lights of the city coming on, and a beautiful sun setting on the harbour.

Tips:

  • Because of our amazing experience, I would recommend timing your climb so that you have light while you climb and hopefully get a setting sun on the way down! This is the best opportunity to see Sydney in 2 different ways, or at least, at its most beautiful!
  • Make sure you bring a hair tye – it’s windy up there!
  • Pay for the professional photos. You already paid heaps to have the experience, what’s a little more for the permanent photographic memories?
  • Don’t drink before hand – they give everyone a breathalyser and if you have alcohol on your breath, you can’t climb!
  • Have a blast!

  1. This was wicked awesome! Those professional pics are a necessity, because you can’t bring any loose objects (like cameras) that potentially can fall down…
