The Year Of Travel: 2016

So, I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from writing. Partly because I was uber busy with work, but mostly because I was too busy travelling to write about it! I travelled on every single weekend of November, and spent 3.5 weeks in Australia from mid-December until about a week ago.

There are worse problems to have, but I must say, travelling THAT much was great, but I won’t be doing that again any time soon!

But, that being said, 2016 is going to be the biggest, baddest & bestest yet!

I have planned my travel on a monthly basis for the entire year already. I find that without a plan, I feel like I have no direction, and no way to guide myself into completing all of the travel I want to do within the time I’ve got. You can see my full 2016 Plan here.

Highlights include:

  • Finally going to Madrid, Spain’s capital, and spending a few days in Seville as well for a romantical Valentine’s long weekend with my Dutch Hunk.
  • Heading to Romania to check out Dracula, Castles, Bears and drive the Transfagarasan (seen in Top Gear) over Easter.
  • Spending time at my friend’s house in the middle of nowhere, an hours drive from Toulouse in France. Activities will revolve around wine, cheese, baguettes and laughter.  All the good things!
  • Finally going to Greece. I am a huge sports fan and in particular have always loved the Olympics, even taking an elective in University called ‘Olympics past & present’ which I got an A on, obviously 😉 therefore going to Athens is a big one for me – I have got to go to the location of the first modern day Olympics! Also planning to spend 8 days split between 2 of the islands (Santorini & Mykonos). What in life could be better than this?!
  • Along the same lines as Greece… I am heading to Budapest during a special time of year – when Budapest plays host to the Formula One race at the Hungaroring! I LOVE Formula One, and am also gagging to go to Budapest so this is going to be one epic weekend.
  • Coming from Melbourne, we have the biggest comedy festival in the world, spanning an entire month with all of the greatest names in comedy coming from all over the world to do shows all around the city. It’s a great time of year. Edinburgh has the sister event to this, in August. The plan is to go for a quick weekend, go to 2 comedy shows, see Edinburgh at her best, and perhaps get up to the Highlands in search of Nessy!
  • Oktoberfest. Need I say more?
  • I don’t know about you, but if you haven’t been to Plitvice National Park and aren’t absolutely dying to go, I just don’t get it. MUST GO HERE IN 2016! Whilst in the area, the plan is to also see Lake Bled and Ljubljana!
  • My last big highlight of 2016 is a recent addition to the list. I am hoping to head up to the northernmost part of Sweden – Lapland, where you race huskies, cross country ski, jump into ice cold waters, and check out those Northern Lights! This year is meant to be up there as one of the best years ever for spotting this phenomena. I was able to spot them on my flight home from Iceland in 2014, and it’s left me wanting!

What travel have you started to plan for 2016?
