Travel Fashion Essentials

For me travel has its own fashion. I know that when I’m travelling I will walk way more than days spent at my desk-job. I also know that what I wear needs to be easily colour coordinate-able, comfortable, respectful (depending on location travelling) and functional. To add to that, I want to look good! Here is my list of essentials for travel fashion for not only looking good but serving a hidden travel purpose:

Safe Handbag

As a female traveller, I like to feel safe, especially whilst carrying my phone, camera and money through foreign places. I find using a cross-body handbag the most comfortable and handy when for snapping photos with both hands. Having safety functions from pick-pockets is another bonus on the collection from Travelon.

Protective Sunglasses

There’s nothing worse than squinting because you forgot your sunglasses. No matter where I’m travelling and no matter in which weather season, I always bring my sunglasses as you never know when the sun will come out! Having a good quality pair is important as the UV coating protects your eyes from the suns harmful rays.

I try to find deals with my travel accessories and finding sunglasses is no different! I found using this website VisionDirectAU the best for getting a deal on a designer pair of sunglasses with UV protection for a really great price! My Bulgari’s are fantastic and look great on my face shape!

You can find them here:

Another upside to the VisionDirectAU website was the super quick shipping, receiving my sunglasses in under one week! The only down side is the sheer amount of pairs to choose from – it probably took me longer to choose which pair to get than the delivery time!

Multi-way Dress

Multi-way dresses are amazing. There are some that are wearable in 10 different styles, which makes them super great for travel – especially if you are travelling for a longer time but don’t have room in your bag for many different outfits! I love this VonVonni style, found on Amazon for its amount of ways it can be worn and all of the different colours to choose from!

Knee-Length (or longer) Skirts

It is important when travelling to stay modest, especially if you plan on popping into a church you’ve stumbled upon on your travels. Especially across Europe you will find many churches and other locations that you need to dress respectfully – so my tip is to avoid short-shorts and mini-skirts. And that certainly doesn’t mean you can’t dress cute!

Shoulder-Coverage

With relation to being respectful, it is important to cover your shoulders when entering religious sites. For me, I never leave my hotel/hostel room without something to cover my shoulders, be that a cardigan/jacket/scarf or shrug. When it’s hot outside, the last thing you want is long-sleeves, so what I do is carry a short-sleeve bolero for those occasions when I just might need it! It’s such a tiny garment that it can be rolled (or stuffed, whatever your preference) into the bottom of your handbag!

Dual-purpose Scarf

When I travel, no matter the temperature at home or abroad, I always travel with my scarf. I enjoy using my scarf as a blanket on planes and have even used it as a pillow on a bus for a little extra comfort. The loop scarves are the best for this purpose and a style in a neutral colour will make sure you can pair it with any outfit!

Comfort Shoe Insoles

Yes – I know how cool that sounds! But seriously, when travelling I dislike getting sore feet from all of the walking! I always make sure I have my trusty insoles with me which I can put into almost any pair of shoes to make them 1000 times comfier! My favourite kind are made out of memory foam which seem to really give some bounce.

Comfortable Sandals

Speaking of shoe insoles…. You won’t find even one pair of fancy nine-west sandals in my travel bag (maybe my regular wardrobe though). Instead I opt for styles from Clarks and Crocs! The thick bottom of these brands of sandal really give an extra layer of comfort and shock absorption which is so important when walking long distances!

This Clarks pair has seen me through 30,000 steps during one day in Paris and not a single foot issue! Had I done that in almost any other pair of shoes, I’d have been complaining all day! And while they aren’t going to be found on the runway, I’ve had numerous strangers come up and ask me where I got them! Not bad, Clarks, not bad at all… Check out my Clarks sandals by the Louvre in Paris!

Crocs also have some great styles these days and I’m all for comfort – so a Crocs pair is a go-to when styling my travel trips! I have a pair of ballet flats for in the cooler months and their girly sandals are also easily paired with many outfits!
