Quick Visit To Milan

After spending a few days in Cinque Terre, Italy, we had planned a half day for Milan before our flight home to London/Amsterdam.

Unfortunately, the rains came in full force on our only day in Milan!

We arrived into Milan at Milan Centrale train station, and decided to take the underground trains to Duomo station to see the cathedral.

The Cathedral

Upon exiting the Duomo underground station, you can begin to glimpse the cathedral. I gasped as I knew I was about to see the Duomo in all of its glory.

Milan’s Cathedral/Duomo is pretty epic! It’s very ‘Sagrada Familia’-like because of how grand and intricate it is.

Even though it was raining, there were plenty of tourists at the Duomo. We didn’t go inside or to the top as the line to do this was about 100 metres long! So, a tip: if you want to do this, get there early!

As it was raining during our time in Milan, what was really cool to see was that the gargoyles atop of the Duomo funnel the rain and send it out via their mouths! I did not get a photo of this, but if you have the rains when in Milan, look out for the Gargoyle mouths!

Milan

The rest of our time after seeing the Duomo was spent eating a delicious Italian meal, and trying to stay out of the rain in a cafe… Not the highlight of sight-seeing I had pictured in my mind..!

Milan seems like a more business-like Italian city than others. Rome has history, Venice has the romantic canals, Florence is gorgeous, Cinque Terre has the unique coloured building, and Milan has the Duomo.

I don’t really think Milan is all that spectacular. It’s a city with big buildings.

My memories of Milan will be my first moment seeing the Duomo, sitting at a cafe when the rains came in full and huddling with other cafe goers inside the tiny shop, and playing card games at centrale station, due to the weather.

I enjoyed my short visit to Milan even though we did not explore too much of it. I feel like I’ve ticked off a bucket list item (Duomo) so that’s enough for me.

Will I go back?

I doubt it…
